THEATRE PERFORMANCE
Based on actual events and people, Shrieking Sisters tells the story of Lilian Metge, a member of a well-known and respected Anglo-Irish family, and her journey from peaceful suffragist to militant suffragette. Along with other activists, Metge hatched a plan to bomb Lisburn Cathedral in 1914. This powerful and thought-provoking suffragette drama sets her story against the backdrop of the wider campaign of militancy that had spread across Ireland and Great Britain and explores the various social and political issues that connected and divided different women’s suffrage groups. Shrieking Sisters reveals the emotional truths that motivated these women who potentially faced imprisonment and force-feeding. It celebrates the stories of these women, many of them previously marginalised by traditional history. Shrieking Sisters is written by Maggie Cronin and Carol Moore, and stars Maggie Cronin, Laura Hughes, and Carol Moore.
