The Linen Hall is seeking an Engagement and Outreach Officer for a fixed term role of 1 year.

Purpose

Founded in 1788, The Linen Hall is an archive, accredited museum, and the oldest Library in Belfast. The political collection at The Linen Hall began in 1968 with one civil rights leaflet, and today contains some 350K items, encompassing all shades of opinion, and containing material from all perspectives. The collection includes a wealth of material relating to the movement for civil rights in Northern Ireland.

The Linen Hall has secured funding under a National Archives Archives Revealed grant for We shall overcome: unlocking civil rights archives at The Linen Hall.

In addition to this Linen Hall has secured funding from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade: Reconciliation Fund for All Children Together.  This project focuses on the integrated education and related archives within The Linen Hall

The Engagement and Outreach programme will explore project themes through the delivery of a programme of activities in-person, and digitally. The successful individual will work closely with the Deputy Librarian, and Archivist to meet the project’s aims and objectives.

The Engagement and Outreach Officer will be a team player, with the ability to work on their own initiative.

The successful candidate will be methodical in approach, work well under time pressures, and possess good interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit community groups, artists, and facilitators for the purpose of participation in focus groups and workshops
  • Assist with research to develop agenda for discussions within workshops and focus groups
  • Oversee and manage delivery of workshops
  • Act as first point of contact for the public, volunteers, and stakeholders with queries, and for seeking advice on the project
  • Liaise with relevant staff on the development of engagement, events, and exhibitions
  • Manage the project budget to ensure it meets its targets in all relevant areas
  • Maintain records ensuring full compliance with all financial, reporting and audit requirements
  • Provide information for and assist with reports to funders
  • Collect, analyse, and share audience data/feedback statistics, including box office reports
  • Comply with safeguarding issues
  • Provide marketing information for digital promotion of all project-related activity
  • May be called upon to assist with other duties as reasonably may be required from time to time commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post. This role may involve working outside normal working hours from time to time.

 

Person Specification

Essential:

To be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, particularly history or public history.

To have proven experience of education and outreach in a similar heritage, arts, or culture project. 

To have experience of putting together exhibitions, including working with designers.

To have experience of oral history projects and knowledge of the legal and ethical principles.

To have proven community relations experience and the ability to work in partnership.

To have experience of oral history projects and knowledge of the legal and ethical principles.

To have experience of recruiting, supporting, and managing volunteers.

To have excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.

To have excellent IT skills including Microsoft office.

 

 Desirable: 

To have experience of digital collections content.

To have a proven interest in Irish and local studies.
