Iconic Mexican Artist Frida Kahlo Is The Inspiration Behind Well-Being Art Exhibition at the Linen Hall in March

Northern Ireland service users have tapped into the colourful life and art of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo as the inspiration for a new art exhibition, In Full Bloom, launching on 1 March.

We also mark World Book Day on 1 March with a talk about WWI poet Francis Ledwidge, and support the Royal National Lifeboat Institution with a display of artwork for sale to raise funds for this life-saving charity.

World Book Day: A Celebration of Francis Ledwidge
Thursday 1 March at 2.00pm/ readings/ £5

Today we celebrate the work and legacy of Irish war poet and solider Francis Ledwidge, with local poets Gerald Dawe and Wilson Burgess. Known as the ‘Poet of the Blackbird’, one of Ledwidge’s most famous works is a tribute to his close friend and executed Easter Rising leader, Thomas McDonagh.

Service users, inspired by the colourful artist Frida Kahlo, who battled her own physical and mental issues, find catharsis in art. This is part of the Here & Now Older People’s Arts, Health and Well-being Festival.

Part of the PRONI (Public Record Office of Northern Ireland) series of lectures at the Linen Hall. Discover the rich sports archive of material available to the public to delve into. From archery to soccer and all sports in between, and the sporting personalities that made the headlines.

Irish Book Club

Whatever your level of mastery in the Irish language, all are welcome to join and discuss the latest chosen book. This month’s title is Diabhlaíocht Dé by Micheál Ó Conghaile.

Royal National Lifeboat Institution Exhibition
13 March – 13 April/ exhibition/ free

An eclectic mix of paintings donated by Ulster artists in support of the RNLI charity that saves lives at sea. Proceeds from the sale of the artwork will be donated to the RNLI and the Linen Hall Library.
Tyrone Guthrie in ‘WWII: From Dunkirk to Belfast’

Theatrical director Tyrone Guthrie packed up his London-based company and took it on a regional tour to ensure the safety of the actors away from the London bombings. His letters home to his sister in Annaghmakerrig make for fascinating reading about a very difficult time.
