Has commemoration got anything to do with history?

Live Online Event (Zoom) • Wednesday 29th September, 7.00pm (UK Time)

Please note that you will receive a Zoom link via email on the day of the event.

Professor Dominic Bryan’s work focuses on power and public space. It looks at how contemporary politics is performed through contestation over symbols. So are these contests about the past or are they actually about the present?

He will be joined by a panel of leading academics including Professor Marie Coleman, Dr. Laura McAtackney, and Dr. Lea David to discuss the role played by statues, memorials, and commemorations, and explore what – if anything – they have to do with history.

Followed by Q&A.
