Join us for a compelling panel discussion exploring the legacy and ongoing resonance of Northern Ireland’s civil rights movement. Expertly chaired by Seamus McKee, our distinguished panel – Dr Margaret Ward, Erskine Holmes, Dr Connal Parr and Fergus Woods – will explore the movement’s pivotal role in shaping modern Northern Ireland.
The panel will reflect on the transformative period of the late 1960s, when citizens took to the streets demanding equal rights in housing, voting, and employment. Our speakers will analyse how these grassroots actions were the catalyst for social change, while also considering what remains unfinished in the quest for full equality and lasting peace.
This event is part of At the Crossroads: The Campaign for Civil Rights in Northern Ireland, a project developed by The Linen Hall and which runs at The Linen Hall from 18 March to 25 April. This project is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs Reconciliation Fund and has also received financial support from the Northern Ireland Community Relations Council which aims to promote a pluralist society characterised by equity, respect for diversity and recognition of interdependence. The views expressed in the project do not necessarily reflect those of the Community Relations Council.
