The Andrew Gibson Memorial Lecture

21st January – 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Free

‘In no public or private library in these kingdoms, or in the world is there a collection like it’

This year’s Andrew Gibson memorial lecture will explore the acquisition of the Gibson Collection of Robert Burns for £1,000 in 1901 by public subscription. Variously described as ‘unequalled’ and ‘without exception the most complete embodiment of the widespread influence of Burns’, the collection was enhanced by a parallel donation of material to the library from the granddaughter of Robert Burns, Eliza Everitt.

Join The Linen Hall Librarian Samantha McCombe as she discusses this fascinating piece of Belfast history and unlocks the treasures of this world-renowned collection which reflects the enduring appeal and influence of Robert Burns.
