Remembering Belfast’s Old Theatres

In the early 1900s Belfast had a thriving theatrical scene, with venues such as The Alhambra, Empire and Theatre Royal entertaining audiences ‘twice nightly’. Local set designer Stuart Marshall has been tracing the history of these long-lost theatres and has brought them back to life in the form of handcrafted miniature models, on display in the library as part of the ‘Theatres of Old Belfast’ exhibition. In this talk, Stuart will take an in-depth look at the model-making process and tell some fascinating stories about the theatres themselves.
