Racial Discrimination in Alabama hits Dungannon’: The Northern Ireland Civil Rights Movement in International Perspective

The 1960s was a decade of massive social and political change worldwide, and Northern Ireland was no exception. Global movements for equality and justice influenced – and were influenced by – local campaigns aimed at addressing discrimination in Northern Ireland.

Historian Dr Melissa Baird explores how local and global influences combined to produce the civil rights movement in Northern Ireland during the 1960s and the impact this campaign had on the international stage.

This event is part of At the Crossroads: The Campaign for Civil Rights in Northern Ireland, a project developed by The Linen Hall and which runs at The Linen Hall from 18 March to 25 April.
