Music Treasures of The Linen Hall Exhibition

20th July - 9th August

Free Exhibition

To celebrate Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026, The Linen Hall (founded in 1788) will exhibit some of the treasures of its music collections. Music was a focus for the library from its earliest years and this is reflected in the exhibition.

Items on display will include the minute book of the Belfast Harp Society; historic editions of Bunting’s Ancient Irish Music; items relating to renowned and influential collectors of Irish songs and airs, such as Robert Shipboy McAdam and Robert Young; and correspondence between song collector Patrick Lynch, Edward Bunting and Mary Ann McCracken.

The Linen Hall is also delighted to exhibit a selection of more recent music treasures, including items from the archives of William Henry (Harry) Grindle, renowned composer, organist and choirmaster; Derek Bell of The Chieftains; and renowned Belfast traditional musician, Seán Maguire.
