Everyone’s Music: Building a Trad Scene in East Belfast with David Armstrong & Gary Duffy

A new traditional music session was established in The Hearth bar in East Belfast in October 2023, bringing together a growing community of local musicians. From the outset, the session navigated important local dynamics, leading to the phrase ‘Everyone’s Music’, reflecting the inclusive and open nature of the tradition. Now a thriving weekly gathering, the session regularly attracts 10–20 players, often led by David Armstrong (pipes) and Gary Duffy (flute). Alongside this, local tuition initiatives have helped expand the area’s trad footprint. In this talk, David and Gary will launch Everyone’s Music #2, discuss its development, and share their vision for the future of traditional music in East Belfast.
