The Library was delighted to recently receive a donation of a splendid illuminated manuscript which had been presented to the late John A Watson by the Belfast Evening Telegraph in April 1914.
Mr Watson, a journalist who also wrote under the pseudonym ‘Flambeau’, was given this impressive volume as recognition and appreciation for the stance he took against Home Rule in his regular newspaper column. The document is signed by many leading Unionists including Lord Londonderry, James Craig and Robert Thompson, and contains a handwritten letter from and an autographed photograph of Sir Edward Carson.
The Library would like to thank Mr Watson’s grandchildren Alan and Philip, and great granddaughter Gemma, who kindly deposited the illuminated manuscript to the safe keeping of the Linen Hall.
