A Career Captured and Donated to the Linen Hall

Facinating Local Journalist Archive Donated to the Library

The Library was delighted to receive a donation from Susan Baker of the work of her late mother journalist Ruth Barnett Baker.

A prolific writer who started at the Belfast News Letter as a junior reporter, Ruth Barnett Baker eventually worked her way up to writing regular articles for Ulster Tatler, Northern Life and Northern Woman. She was also a Life Member of the Linen Hall Library.

The material is fascinating reading as it covers a multitude of topics of local and historical interest, including interviews with celebrities and politicians’ wives, and pieces about the Irish Brontës.

The archive is available to peruse in the LIbrary’s Irish and Reference Collection.
