Since 2020, Martin Magill has been researching the fascinating stories behind Belfast’s street names, uncovering a wealth of information about 2,000 street names, revealing the people and the historical events that have shaped the city. In this talk, Martin will reveal some of his most exciting discoveries, and will also launch a new website dedicated to his research.

About Martin Magill
Martin Magill grew up in Aldergrove. He was ordained a priest in 1988 and has served in several parishes in Belfast and Ballyclare/Ballygowan. He is presently the Parish Priest of St John’s on the Falls, Belfast. He is a co-founder of the 4 Corners Festival which encourages the building of new relationships across the four corners of the city. He is a member of ‘Stop Attacks’ a group dedicated to ending all paramilitary attacks. Martin is the author of The Poor Clares in Belfast. Over the past three years as a hobby, he has been researching and collating details including the origins of Belfast Street Names.
