Adopting a book or a bookcase enables the Library to conserve some of our written treasures for future generations. The Linen Hall Library has a leading and unique collection of books, manuscripts, newspapers, maps, periodicals and pictures. However, many of these items are deteriorating from age and overuse. We must do something now to prevent our literary heritage from vanishing before our eyes,
The cost of conserving a book varies from £30 to £1000 depending on the condition of the book, the value of it and the amount of conservation work required, so all amounts donated are equally important.
An acid-free bookplate is attached to the book with your name and/or preferred inscription. A personalised certificate is then posted to you with the details of the book you have adopted. All donations are computer catalogued as soon as possible with the name of the donor attached to the record. Adopted books can also be viewed on request.
Alternatively, you may wish to consider adopting either a bookshelf or bookcase. From £250 you can choose the collection in which you wish to adopt the bookshelf/case, and we will then erect a brass plate with an inscription of your choice. We will also organise a personalised tour of the Library for you and your friends.
